- First name: Aleksandr - Last name: Skobelev - Email address: REMOVED - Phone number(s): 7 (812) 5401931 - Postal code: 195221 (does it help? :) - City: Saint-Petersburg - State or province: -- - Country: Russia - Organization(s) you work for or study at (please supply the name and city for each organization): "Analize Design Development" (Saint-Petersburg) - Fields of interest (e.g. computer linguistics, numerical analysis, business software, medicine, bioinformatics): Business software, TCP/IP network programming, digital signal processing - Have you written any Lisp-related papers? If so, please supply bibliographical references (and URL's, if possible). No, i haven't (only translated Mark Battiany's paper he wrote for ILC into Russian) - Have you developed or participated in the development of any Lisp-related programs or libraries? If so, please supply a URL, if possible. No, I haven't (if not count some little programs/utilities for my own needs) - Lisp variants you have used (e.g. Common Lisp, Scheme, Dylan): Common Lisp - Lisp variants you're currently using or intend to use in the near future: Common Lisp - Lisp implementations you have used (e.g. CMUCL, Lispworks, Allegro Common Lisp): CMUCL - Lisp implementations you're currently using or intend to use in the near future: SBCL, CMUCL, LispWorks (I hope) - Computer platforms on which you're using or deploying Lisp: Linux, Mac OS X - Number of years of experience with Lisp: total volume is 3 (if look at the time, when I first posted in c.l.l) but active tim is much lesser (something about 1 year?) - Experience with other programming languages (please supply the number of years and the name of the language): 1 year - Objective-C 10 years - C/C++ ~1 year - Fort, mini Prolog, MatLab, Fortran - Total number of years of programming experience: ~11 years - Do you use Lisp: - at work (if so, how much) yes i do, but not very much still, mainly for writing small utilities for generating HTML, some functions that allow me to generate some datas, that i use in my programs. - as a hobby (if so, how much) yes I do, but again, much lesser than I'd wished, espesially for last year, after I found a new job that has got all my time. - Are you using Lisp as much as you would like to? If not, why not? Not, I'm not. I almost have no free time, and I still haven't had the chance to use it actively in some project on my work. - Do you see any obstacles to further Lisp growth (if so, what is the biggest obstacle in your opinion)? I don't see any principial obstacles, but ever in a best case, I think, it can take about 5 years, before Lisp grows enough to not intimidate people with his name. I still think that one of the main reason that slows down Lisp growth is that there is not single multiplatform realisation of Lisp with a lot of libraries, included libraries for GUI and threads. I don't tell it is BAD (in general sence). I think it is bad for the lisp popularity. - Would you be interested in a Lisp-related job or contract work? Probably, yes, I would. - Is your organization interested in hiring Lisp programmers? No, it isn't. :( - Are you currently participating in Lisp-related meetings? If so, where and how often? If not, would you be interested in such meetings? No, I'm not. I'm not sure I would. I'd be interested if it had some practical result. But I'm from Russia, and Lisp is not a very popular here. - Do you know any other Lispers who might be willing to fill in this questionnaire (please supply their names and email-addresses if you do)? I don't know any other Lispers around. - Do you know people who may be interested in learning Lisp (please supply their names and email-addresses if you do)? I have not found any real person still. A lot of people happy with Perl/Java/C++ running around me, and just don't want to hear anything about that misterious Lisp. It looks like I should to do something exrtaordinary to attract their attention.
